MOIRY

SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2024

Take part in an ascent to the Moiry dam via Vercorin and Pinsec, with views of the Matterhorn and Dent Blanche in the background.

Your ascent begins in Chippis, a small village on the plains, on the banks of the Rhône. A small road takes you to Brie, passing close to the Ricard bisse, then rises for a few kilometers above Sierre, before joining the main road to the resort of Vercorin. The route then skirts cliffs and passes through galleries cut into the rock, allowing you to admire the Val d'Anniviers stretching out below you. At Vercorin, the route heads towards Pinsec and then descends for several kilometers, passing through the typical hamlets of Mayoux and Saint-Jean. As you start to climb again, the backdrop to your ascent is the Matterhorn and the Dent Blanche, and the road is wide and rolling on the first part. From the picturesque village of Grimentz onwards, the effort becomes more substantial, with a steep gradient for five to six kilometers, before a brief flat and two demanding final kilometers to the Moiry dam. The finish at 2250 meters altitude is located near the crown of the dam overlooking the lake.
